Here at Bushypark Vets we can issue a pet passport for your pet and talk you through the process involved from start to finish. Many of our clients have taken their pets abroad and it has allowed them to travel freely within Europe. The EU pet passport system permits the entry or re-entry of animals into Ireland from qualifying countries so that owners may travel with their furry friends more easily i.e. without quarantine. Pets such as dogs, cats and ferrets require a passport for travelling. Firstly your pet must be identified by means of a microchip.
Other requirements include rabies vaccination at least 21 days prior to entry or re-entry into Ireland. Tapeworm treatments for dogs which are given not more than 5 days and not less than 1 day before entry into Ireland. The detailed rules of requirements with regard to documentation, procedures and participating countries are changing constantly, along with the possibility of a no deal Brexit. We are happy to answer any questions you may have, but if you would like to access further information on EU pet passports or non European countries go to www.agriculture.gov.ie/pets
